  • When do I need a legal paternity test?

    A legal paternity test is generally required when there is a need to prove paternity in a court of law, amending a birth certificate, child support, and custody cases.

  • Should I sign the acknowledgment of paternity without first getting a test?

    It is a good idea to seek legal advice before signing a legal document.

  • Do i need a court order?

    A DNA test can be requested by anyone. When there is a child support or custody case, a Judge may order a test.

  • Is there a difference with legal & court-admissible DNA test?

    There is no difference. Both require identification and chain of custody documents.

  • Is there an age limit for testing?

    There are no age restrictions with DNA testing. A baby can be tested right after birth.

  • Can a paternity test be done with just the father and child?

    You certainly can take a paternity test without the mother's DNA. Even though the standard paternity test kit includes DNA swabs for the mother, father, and child, it is not required to have the mother's DNA. A child inherits their DNA from their mother and their father equally.

  • Is a non-legal paternity test accurate?

    Yes, The testing process is the same, except there is no legal documentation required.

  • Is the buccal swab as accurate as blood?

    A buccal swab(cheek swab) sample collected properly, is just as accurate as a blood sample, which is more invasive since it involves a needle stick. 

  • How long does it take to get my paternity test results?

    Our testing laboratory can process results in 2 to 3 working days from the time your samples are received. Rush testing is also available.

  • Will my health insurance coverage pay for a DNA test?

    No, health insurance will not cover the cost of a DNA test unless it is health-related.


  • Is there a problem if the two possible father's are related

    The laboratory needs to be aware of a close relationship with the alleged fathers before testing begins. It will be necessary to test both alleged fathers, with the child, and mother to accurately determine which one is the true biological father. If one of the alleged father is not available for testing, then the test will have to be extended with the other.

  • Does my mother need to be included in a legal sibling test?

    Yes, a legal sibling test does require testing the mother and at least 2 or more full/half-siblings to reach a conclusive result.

  • My father has died, how can I get a DNA test?

    A paternity test cannot be processed if the alleged father is unavailable, missing, or deceased with no blood card is available from the medical examiners' office. We have other testing options that are available in these types of circumstances. We can use DNA samples of family members to determine the biological relationship.
