There have been so many different advancements in the world of scientific research in our lifetimes it’s hard to pinpoint the ones that have done the most to better our lives but DNA testing is surely at the top of that list.
When you consider some of the branches that have grown off the original tree that marked this discovery, it’s easy to see why dna testing works for us in many different aspects of out lives.
Paternity Testing.
This is the most common application and while paternity testing is still about determining the biological relationship between a man and a child, there are several ways that this procedure is routinely carried out.
As most of us who know anything about this procedure know, there’s no need for the mother’s sample to be used in the test although it can be preferred. And beyond the usually methods of sample collection that involves the cheek swabs, there are other methods that can be sued including prenatal paternity testing and paternity testing with hair.
The test can be administered at home to in an accredited facility, but generally it’s the only the tests that are carried out in a laboratory that have results that can be used in court. Still, one of the more common applications is for the courts where the issue of child support gets ironed out between the man and woman.
Grandparentage DNA Testing
This is one of the lesser known DNA tests that can determine if a couple are the grandparents of a child. This is useful in determining the family relationships when the alleged father cannot participate in paternity testing himself. One of the major factors here is the fact that the test needs to be carried out in an accredited laboratory that has the best methods available to it.
It’s important to make the distinction that while there are at home tests available, the ones that carry the most weight are carried out at the laboratory level.
DNA testing has been around for years and in that time it’s been responsible for helping countless people get together with families that they might not have even known they had. The most of these procedures is called paternity testing and the best of the facilities that carry these tests out are all accredited and also aware of the personal nature of these tests.
Patricia Denny is a nurse that has experience with the paternity testing laws in California. She’s worked in all areas of dna testing as well.
